German exports fall in January

In January 2015 goods to the value of EUR 89.9 bn were exported from Germany and goods to the value of EUR 74.0 bn were imported.

As the German Federal Bureau of Statistics (Destatis) further reports on the basis of provisional results, this means that German exports were 0.6% and imports 2.3% lower in January 2015 than in January 2014. After calendar and seasonal adjustment exports fell by 2.1% in comparison with December 2014 and imports by 0.3%.

The balance of trade closed in January 2015 with a surplus of EUR 15.9 bn (January 2014: + EUR 14.7 bn).
