ifo business climate index rises again

As the ifo Institut has disclosed, the business climate index for industry in Germany rose to 106.7 points in January from 105.5 points in the prior month – its third successive rise.

The companies were noticeably more satisfied with their current business situation. Furthermore the majority of them are viewing coming developments with optimism again.

The business climate index has also risen for the third time in succession in the processing industries, with the industrial companies’ assessment of the situation turning out better once again. Confidence is also growing with a view to developments in the coming months.

Due to the falling euro exchange rate greater stimuli are expected from exports, and the utilization of capacity has risen by 0.4% to 84.6%.

In the wholesale trade the business climate has also continued to improve, especially due to a considerably more favourable assessment of the situation, whereas expectations have turned out more modest.

In the retail trade the climate took a turn for the better again for the first time since July 2014.
