The maintenance giant is buying the Cromwell Group (Holdings) Limited with all its branches for GBP 310 m (EUR 438 m).

The transaction is to be completed by the beginning of September.

Cromwell, founded in 1970 and based in Leicester/UK, has a turnover of EUR 283 m (EUR 400 m) as at 31.8.2015, making it the largest servicing wholesaler (MRO) in the UK. Its business is generated mainly in the UK, although customers are supplied all over the world.

Grainger regards the United Kingdom and Germany as the largest e-commerce markets in Europe, whereas the US is of course a step further ahead.

The transaction is to be concluded by 1.11.2015, but still has to receive the blessing of the competition authorities.

Home Depot, which has 2,200 DIY stores in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico is probably the largest DIY chain in the world. About 300,000 people are employed, and in 2014 its turnover stood at USD 83.2 bn (EUR 76.2 bn). There are also plans to expand into Europe, although up until now these efforts have shown no sign of success.

Interline made a turnover of USD 1.7 bn (EUR 1,5 bn) in 2014, and the company numbers 4,500 employees and 93 branches in the United States.
